{one year ago today}

One year ago today we were in Oahu. For seven days straight, I was blessed with this amazing view, and I celebrated a milestone birthday. There's definitely worse ways to celebrate your birthday. [wink] Today I'm celebrating another year of life and, although we're not on a tropical island (going in February!), I will try to make it feel special. As I write this post, I'm currently curled up in my bed and doing everything in my power to conquer a cold that body slammed me (and my son) on Friday night. I had one at the end of October, but this one is different. This one has left me weak, aching, and coveting endless sleep. Today was the first day that I saw some improvement, so I'm hoping I'm on the upward swing back to the living. However, I'm careful not to get my hopes up too high. This birthday may be best spent in bed. The up side? My appetite and taste buds are slowly returning, so I'll make sure to save room for cake. While I'm trying to get better, I will make sure to longingly stare at that photo above and remember one year ago today. Hope you all are doing much better than me.

Can you remember where you were one year ago today?

24 Send Me Your Thoughts:

  1. Well, first, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! And second, you clearly get a do-over. Clearly. I had roughly a decade of bad birthdays, so I well know the importance of the do-over. My sweet friend. Rest, recover, hibernate and feel better. Pay attention to yourself. You deserve it and all the joy the coming year can bring. LOVE.

  2. Happy Birthday Theresa!  So sorry you are feeling under the weather on this special day but it is good to hear that you're on the other side of that cold.  Going back to Hawaii in February?  Lucky You : )  Enjoy the rest of your day!

  4. Happy happy happy birthday, glorious Theresa! I'm so sorry you're sick, but think of it this way, you get to play the Birthday card AND the Sick card in the same day and eat nothing but cake and watch nothing but silly tv and nap if you can. Feel better soon! What is your lovely family doing to celebrate? Better that you weren't in Hawaii right now, you couldn't enjoy it with a cold. A year ago today....we were in New York, in the pouring rain, having dropped our things (and dog!) off at J's parents house in North Jersey for Thanksgiving an snuck away to the city for a day to catch up with friends. We had dinner in midtown and then spent until 3am dancing and drinking in the Meatpacking district. We woke up the next morning and had macarons for breakfast in bed. Thank you for making me think about that day! Enjoy yours today. xoxo

  6. Thank you, Tori! I tell you, this cold is a bad one. Each day gets better, so today I'm feeling like I could really celebrate my birthday. "Go, Shorty! It's your birthday." Ok, maybe I'm getting ahead of myself. I feel tired just typing that. ;)

  7. Thank you, Teri! Even if I can't taste the cake or it tastes like cardboard, I'm determined to have some. There must always be room for birthday cake. Though, I just tried to have a cup of coffee after four days of being sick and it tasted like lighter fluid. Back to hot water, lemon, and honey. So, wish me luck on the cake. ;)

  8. Aw, I love that memory. I think I read that post. ;) Thank you so much for the well wishes on both fronts. I started to feel even a bit better today and I started thinking of all the things I wanted to do. It's funny but this cold has definitely made me appreciate the little things, like being able to shower and do my hair. Ha-ha!

  9. My memory is dust too! Though, when I wrote that question, I imagined that most of us could simply look back our blog post from last year and it would spark our memory. Thank goodness for our blogs, right? Thank you for the well wishes, Santa!

  16. Happy birthday! I hope you are feeling better soon! Sounds like you got my cold, it totally knocked me out too. It took me full three weeks to get rid of all my symptoms. Last one to go was my cough. Hope you still had a good birthday with cake and candles!

  17. Awww, happy Birthday lovely T. Really sorry to hear you're under the weather but let's look at the bright side.

    For one you have that picture and the memories that go with it. Furthermore you have a blogging community and friends that care for you. Life's not that bad so let's be greatful that whatever we feel or go through, we have our little community.

    Sending you lots of positive energy and well wishes from London. Get better soon T x

    PS Just checked my diary. My best friend came to visit from Germany and I took him to the finals of the ATP Tennis World Championship as a present for his Birthday.... good memory.

  22. Happiest of birthdays, Theresa! Celebrating a milestone birthday on Oahu is a treat, for sure, and I'm sure it'll be equally wonderful when you return there in February. I'm so sorry to hear about your cold. Both James and I came home from our trip to Oahu with bad colds -- my fifth this year. I think it's time we start bringing Airborne with us when we fly.

    Here's to a happy, healthy year for you, my beautiful friend! xo.
