{at this moment: notable mentions}

On Wednesday I mentioned that our family took a last minute road trip to Las Vegas. I'll be the first to admit that Las Vegas seems like an unlikely place to visit with kids. However, we always manage to have a relaxing time and find things to do (ahem, lots of lounging by the pool). On this particular trip, we stayed at the Venetian hotel. The Venetian houses a handful of notable restaurants such as Postrio, Cut, and Morel. One restaurant that I've been wanting to try for awhile is Bouchon Bistro, but haven't had the opportunity. The bistro is most widely known for its restaurants and bakeries located in Yountville, Beverly Hills and New York. Well, imagine my surprise when I discovered that there was a Bouchon Bistro inside the Venetian and a bakery in the lobby. Win-win! Let's see, lounging by the pool and dining at a French bistro. Add to that a cozy hotel room and a little shopping. Yep, I would say the trip was a success. Just what the doctor ordered. [wink]

Unrelated to the topic above, I wanted to touch upon something that I talked about in Monday's Moodboard post. I had mentioned that my inertia was becoming quite frustrating and that I would really like to try to DO more. With this mind, I pulled down all my to-do lists from my pin board in an attempt to organize, consolidate, and cross things off that have been completed. In going through this exercise, I realized how many items I was crossing off my list slash how much I had already accomplished. I think sometimes I don't give myself enough credit, which made me wonder, are you the same way? Are you hard on yourself for not getting things done? Do you forget to congratulate yourself for the things you have accomplished? This weekend, instead of making another to-do list, or checking an already existing one, how about we make a list (written or in our head) of all the things we have done. I hope this task will make you feel proud and bring you some happiness. Cheers to each of you, and have a wonderful weekend!

13 Send Me Your Thoughts:

  1. Did you try the 'fancy rice krispy treats' at Bouchon (sorry I don't know what they're called in real life)?  Those are my fave and my friends always pick me up some when they go to Bouchon (in Vegas, NYC, Cali - doesn't matter which one - they're all good!).  Sounds like a great trip and that the kids had fun too!

  2. Now, that sounds like my kind of Vegas vacation! My parents went to Napa earlier this year and they raved about Bouchon. I'm dying to go, myself, especially after seeing your photos of their beautiful food. And your little one is too adorable for words!

  4. so glad your time away was wonderful!
    in answer to your question; yes, i am always wishing i got more done, had accomplished more, knew which direction i was moving in.... the list goes on...
    a list of things you have done sounds like a great idea.

  5. Oh, Eames, adorable! B looks like a fun place ( I like that typographic B you used in your collage)
    I think that trip sounds exactly what you needed. Time with the family, good food, cozy rooms and a bit of retail shopping.

    How interesting that you suddenly noticed how much you have accomplished.... it's a good lesson for us, isn't it?
    Yes, I often write a list of my accomplishments, mainly when my inner critic is giving me a hard time. To shut her up, I show black and white proof and miraculously not another sound is heard:))

    Have a good weekend T.

  6. We took Callum to Las Vegas when he was really young. My dad has always been intrigued by Egypt so we snuck over to the Luxor while we were living in San Diego. And you're right...the pool is perfect for little kids. He liked the humongous bathtub in our room too. I liked the shopping. ;)

    And I think you're right. We are too hard on ourselves. A girlfriend and I used to joke, "If I'm not going to be hard on myself, who will be!?" Right now I *am* getting things done, but I feel scattered, and I don't like that. So next week, some organization is on the books for me. Nice chatting, dear. xo

  9. I think we're all too hard on ourselves. I don't know if it's women in general or what, but I think we all set really high expectations for ourselves and then don't give ourselves enough credit. I also think there's something about how accustomed as a generation we are to instant gratification (internet at our fingertips, overnight shipping, etc etc) so that if something doesn't happen right away we get frustrated (at least, I do :) It's easier for me to say to YOU, "Hey! Go easy on yourself! You're doing great!" than it is to be easy on myself, haha. On a lighter note: that restaurant looks amazing! And jeez louise Eames is a cutie pie. I'm so happy you guys had a nice little vacation. Sometimes you just need to escape for a few days and recharge! xo

  11. It sounds like a lovely trip to Vegas (two words that I don't think you hear together often: Lovely + Vegas). I definitely focus on the things that DIDN'T get crossed off the list. I should try this assignment.
