So, I've been noticing this trend popping up on clothing, home wares, posters, and stationery whereby a solid coat of black is used as the backdrop and a colorful print is painted/printed on top. I like the dramatic effect of this technique. I think this type of print would make a beautiful duvet cover. (I'm looking at you Dwell Studio.)
So, how are you all doing on this fine hump day? Lately, I've been thinking that it's time for a new header. (I've had the one above for almost a year now.) So, I've been sketching - which feels good - but I haven't produced anything that I love yet. I'll just keep working at it. How are your projects coming along?
Interesting to me that you mention switching up your header in a post describing a trend of a black background with a pop of color on top...see any similarities? ;) Oh to be able to sketch! It'll never happen. I've moved on. Right now my projects have been far ranging and varied but include getting back into the swing of daily blogging and moving my mind to a site redesign and some new features. So new headers? Yes, perhaps. Mine feels tired too. I do love yours though, and part of me would hate to see it go.
ReplyDeletethose are so pretty. can't wait to see your header design. you're so talented and creative. i can't draw a thing. you really should be doing some work in design... i know you're thinking. xo Teri
ReplyDeleteLoving the stationery here. As for projects, as usual with me, they are coming along sloooooowly. Happy Wednesday to you too!
ReplyDeleteIt certainly makes the colours pop, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your new header! I bet your sketches look way better than you think.
"How are your projects coming along?"
Ha! How long have you got?
I'm getting there, though - one itsy bitsy step at a time. :) x
i love your old header, so keep it nearby, will you? projects are all at school now. busy and happy. joy to you, n
ReplyDeleteLove those black textiles with the bold color. Stunning! I'm actually in the middle of a header redesign myself, except I've out sourced the project to my hubs who's an art director. It'll be fun to art direct him on this one. :-)
ReplyDeleteHello T. I very much like the black b/g with colour/patterns on top. Works for me, if done well.
ReplyDeleteYou might have seen on Instagram I saw Rosita Missoni in a talk with Michelle from Elle DecorationUK. What a treat! The funny thing was that Michelle tweeted she's getting ready to interview RM while I was working on my computer. I have never left so quickly and scootered to the other side of town within 30mns... got there just as it started. I was able to tell RM what a great fan I've been forever and how I thank her for inspiring me with colour! It was also great to meet the editor of Elle DecorationUK
Projects: I'm overwhelmed with work and have great projects up my sleeve. Am working through them bit by bit. Very energising and pleasing:)
Your header: well, yes I think it could have a little make-over and I'm very excited you're sketching and getting into creative flow. You know the process: when you see the right thing, your heart will skip a beat. Can't wait to see some... wouldn't it be fun if you chose 3 versions or so, blogged about it and get people to choose? How does that sound? Anyway, always happy to help and give feedback if you so wish!
LOVE those FLOR tiles!
ReplyDeleteAs far as I'm concerned, black will always be the new black. It's a classic, it's my wardrobe staple. If I have the choice between black and anything else, I'll always go with the former. Unless it's gray. And then it's a toss up :)
ReplyDeleteAnd you know me and changing up headers, haha. I love the one you have now, but if you're feeling like it's time for a change, go for it girl! xo
Ah, now that you mention it, I do see the similarity. You're so observant.
ReplyDeleteHm, back to daily blogging, huh? I suppose I should start thinking about that again.
If you need a sounding board, I'm all ears.
Thanks, Teri. Yes, as you know, wheels are constantly turning. All my thinking needs to turn into some action. ;)
ReplyDeleteSlow is ok. At least you're moving. ;)
ReplyDeleteOne foot in front of the other, that's all we can do. As I told Santa below, "itsy bitsy" is ok.
ReplyDeleteI became frustrated so my sketching stopped. When the mood strikes, I'll get back to it.
Thanks, Noreen! I like that your projects have some immediate and tangible rewards.
ReplyDeleteHow exciting, Lauren! Can't wait to see. Art directing your Art Director ... That's cute. Good luck and have fun.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, those are totally your style! They would look great in your casa.
ReplyDeleteYes, black is the new black, always.
ReplyDeleteHm, with so much love in the house, maybe I won't change the header. I'll just keep you guys guessing. ;)
I did catch one Instagram photo of your Missoni meeting. How amazing! I know what an inspiration Missoni and Rosita are to you, so that interview must have been a dream come true. (Hm, will there be a follow up post? I would love to hear about it.)
ReplyDeleteYour header survey sounds really interesting and a great interactive way to get everyone involved in the process. You know how I love some interaction on the blog. Thanks, Tina!
i love the dramatic pop against the black!!
ReplyDeletei love your header!! but, if you have a new one sketched out that you love...i can't wait to see it!!! :)
I quite like this trend as well - you can make it chic, elegant, folksy, whatever! I wonder why it didn't catch on any sooner...
