{seasons change}

People, according to my calendar, this Saturday is the first day of autumn. How did that happen? Well, for the past month (thanks, retailers) we've all been clamoring for the beginning of fall, so now it's officially here. Autumn is my favorite season for all the reasons stated in that quote above. I also enjoy the annual ritual of pulling out fall staples, especially the sweaters; It's like getting a whole new wardrobe. Well, almost. There are a few new things I have on my wish list:
  • Chunky cable knit sweaters (aka fisherman sweaters). I own a couple, but they're in desperate need of a new friend.
  • Flat ankle boots. These continue to be my all-time favorite and...they're sold out. Oh, and see that gold detail on the heel? Watch for this trend to hit shoes this fall on both heels and toe caps.
  • Yes, I'm still looking for the perfect army green jacket. This one is actually a parka, which is making a huge comeback. (Thanks, Quadrophenia.)
  • Have you noticed that Coach is bringing back what they term, their archival bags - bag shapes and designs that were popular in the 1990's? I admit, I had a Coach bucket bag in its heyday, and I gave it away. And, that's why you never give things away. (Kicking myself.) What's old is new again.
  • This season, I had an idea that I would like to wear more dresses and skirts (especially this skirt) with black tights (another fall favorite) and ankle boots or oxfords. Wearing something slightly more feminine paired with a more masculine sweater and shoe just sounds appealing to me. In truth, let's be realistic, my old stand-by denim will win that contest. It's similar to when I ask my daughter if she did [insert task kids don't want to do] and she answers in the affirmative. Then, I reply [because I know she didn't], "No, you didn't." To which she replies, "Let's pretend."
So, tell me friends, what are you most looking forward to wearing this fall? Planning on making any special purchases? Make-believe or real, I would love to hear. Happy hump day!

19 Send Me Your Thoughts:

  1. Your daughter is a HOOT.  I wore oxfords yesterday, pretending it was fall.  And then sweat out of all of my clothes because it was 90 degrees.  Let's pretend indeed :)

  2. I'm ready. Everytime I long for California, I remember how lovely fall is here in the Tidewater. We're having a taste of it today. After muggy, tropical weather yesterday, it's cool, gray and blustery today. Delicious. I know Virginia though, and she's just teasing me. It'll get brutally hot again in October.

So. On to important stuff. I've been thinking about skirts and tights too. I tend to vary year to year here, and last year was (ahem) more of a yoga pant year. This year I will do it! More skirts, more tights, more boots, and more of those gorgeous cable knit sweaters. I'm really trying not to buy clothes (you're not helping BTW), but I know I need to replace my patent Danskos and I need some black boots. That doesn't count, right? RIGHT?

As far as your daughter is concerned, I have no words beyond these: You're in trouble, sister.

  3. you're so good at moodboards! I guess I'm looking forward to fall but in "blog world" everyone is always so anxious to get to the next season. I'm having a problem with time moving too quickly and I want to enjoy NOW.  But, yes I love sweaters and boots and wish it was colder in So Cal in winter so I could wear them more.  xo Teri

  4. Being a devotee of the parka and masculine boot, I love your choices, as always but I would swap your sweet little Coach bag for something more likely to accommodate a small child. :D

Oh, and I've been besotted with this - http://popupshop.net/node/202 - despite the obvious impracticalities. I know, I know but just picture it layered (something snug underneath, biker jacket on top) worn belted with Chelsea boots or brogues. :)

Aww! Eames is adorable, cheeky and very funny. Did you manage to keep a straight face the first time she said that? :D

  5. Oh those boots..tres cool. I got a pair of tall boots in cognac last Winter. I cannot wait to start wearing them again (Fall right through to Winter...possibly Spring- that's how much I love them!)

  6. yes to all those clothes!  you have my number exactly!

  7. I am loving all the new oxfords this season! I just ordered two pairs :)

  8. Ugh, I feel ya. It is still warm in these parts, as well. We're having a bit of an Indian summer.

  9. No, it doesn't count because those items are for survival. I mean, you NEED boots in the winter. (Ok, now I'm really not helping.)
Ha, tell me about it, L. My daughter is full of surprises and keeps me on my toes. ;)

  10. Thanks, Teri! Well, if the weather in SoCal would ever simmer down, fall might seem more realistic. Sometimes, I also wish that SoCal got a bit colder, then that parka wouldn't be too much of an overkill.

  11. You and I definitely share a love for things that skew more masculine. OH, and that jumpsuit, Chi! You don't have to sell me on its coolness - I'm on board. Love it! I immediately envisioned it with a striped, fitted turtleneck underneath.
When my daughter first used the phrase, we were returning home late one evening from visiting relatives and I rhetorically asked her if she brushed her teeth as I was carrying her upstairs. In her half-asleep stupor she replied, "Let's pretend." I laughed.

  12. Oh, your cognac boots sound sublime. I can understand why you're eager to break them out.

  13. Hee-hee! Though, to be more realistic, I probably should have added a pair of jeans.

  14. Oh, now I'm all intrigued to see your new oxfords. How fun!

  15. I love fall!! And actually, I'm on a search for some black ankle boots  and an army green jacket, but with a hood. I love hoods on jackets.

Nice choices here, thanks Theresa :)

  16. I love everything about this post! The sweaters, those boots, the green parka (parkas are really having a moment, aren't they? I'm on the hunt for the perfect one!) that skirt, vintage Coach, and your adorable daughter. Let's pretend. I'm going to steal that, I think, she's onto something! Chunky cable sweaters are my weakness, I wait all year to break them out.

  17. I am a big fan of boots, love the ones you picked! Just recently I treated myself to my first pair of Frye boots and am looking forward to take them out for the first time. I'd actually wear everything from your selection so let's pretend I could buy it all ;)
