{wear in the world: camping...}

here we go! the countdown for our family camping trip has officially started. as i mentioned on monday, we're departing this friday. i have the packing list printed out and am checking it and rechecking it. this is one of those trips where you don't want to forget anything, otherwise you're SOL. it's not like you can quickly run to target to pick up that bug repellent you forgot.

besides all the necessities one needs while camping, i like to make sure i'm wearing a comfortable outfit. don't we all? i mean, if i'm going to smell funky and feel like pigpen, my outfit should at least be comfortable, right? the weather calls for hot days and cool nights, so here is what i think i need outfit wise:
  • baseball cap - i know i should be wearing this hat, but the new york one was more stylish. (i can hear my family yelling at me right now.)
  • thin long sleeve plaid shirt - protects you from the elements night or day.
  • shorts - temperatures are suppose to hit the 90's! while it wouldn't be my first choice to wear shorts - i prefer jeans - shorts just seem like the way to go.
  • aviator sunglasses - i'm thinking any kind of sunglasses are a must with the hot temperatures.
  • field jacket - some kind of jacket will be necessary when the temperatures dip at night.
  • towelettes - i don't plan to wear makeup, but wet wipes in general are a must for any camping trip.
  • north face backpack - you really can't/shouldn't bring one of those suitcases with wheels on a camping trip. it's like taking your good LV luggage on safari. oh, wait, people do that. oh well, what do i know?
  • let's hear it for hunter boots! - i like to wear rubber rain boots around the campsite, which was inspired by kate moss at the glatsonbury music festival. the boots help to keep your footies dirt and dust free. when you get home just rinse the boots off with a water hose. so much easier to clean than tennis shoes. (though, i will also bring a pair of trainers should we go hiking.)
so, did i forget anything? oh, sun block. cannot forget the sun block. would you add anything else? (feel free to insert your funny here.)

20 Send Me Your Thoughts:

  1. Where are you going? Mountains or beach? I've done lots of camping in my life and of course never looked as chic as your picks. I find at some point I just give up trying to be stylish or clean. I miss the smell of the outdoors and sitting around the fire at night, but that's about the best part of camping. Although I think I told you we're planning to do a one night trip someplace near by. I can handle one night. Can't wait to see your camping photos.  Teri

  2. I love the outfit you put together! That field jacket is beautiful, a total wardrobe staple. And those Hunter wellies! This confirms it, I need to buy a pair once the fall rolls around. They make anything look awesome. Face wipes and sunblock are a must, and I don't travel anywhere without a pack of Oral B Brush Ups, these little finger mits that you clean your teeth with, but it appears they've been discontinued! Bummer! Maybe some mouthwash and some good bug spray. I'm like a mosquito magnet even in urban environments, I'd never survive the wilderness without some Off spray. Have fun!!

    Oh, and BOOOO Yankees ;)

  5. This is such a great Theresa outfit - a touch of chic with the aviators, a bit of boyfriend style thrown in and those lusciously glossy Hunters. I have a feeling your tent will not be too disimilar to the one above but I'd like to have my own pillow - a little something that smells of (and reminds me of) home! :D

  6. Gosh, you're 1 chic camper woman! Love the Hunters!! What I love is your layout and how you put it all together. Very professional and very beautiful. You go girl. I'm off to Germany on Friday but clearly will have more comfort and luxury:) Will be thinking of you...

  7. We're headed to Big Bear this time around. (Last year, we did Pt. Magu in Malibu and we all loved it!) So, I'm thinking this year we might be able to get some hiking in.
Don't get me wrong, I love the outdoors. Hiking, mountain biking, trail running...I use to do it all. I love being in nature. However, I do not like to sleep overnight in nature. I like my day in nature to end with a hot shower that's not coin operated and a fluffy bed. :)
I must find out where you're going for your one night stay.

  8. Oh, the Oral B Brush Ups are a great tip! Wonder if I can get my hands on something similar. Those would definitely come in handy. You wold look great in a pair of wellies. I don't have a Hunter pair, just a shiny black pair (I can't remember the maker) and I love them. I wear them rain or...camping. (Though, I might just splurge on some Hunters next season.)

  9. Ha, I only remembered bug spray as I was making my rounds in Target. The cans of Off caught my eye and I thought, "Hm, this might come in handy." :)
We're planning on making tons of s'mores, for sure. In fact, I was in charge of bringing all the chocolate and marshmallows...for five families. The Target cashier said, "So, you're going camping."

  10. I know, right? Think my family would make fun of me very much if I brought my down comforter? Nevermind, I don't want it to get dirty. ;)

  11. Thank you, Chi. Yes, those red Hunters are now on my wish list. Great idea about the pillow...A little something that reminds me of home would be nice.

  12. Thank you, Tina! I try my best.
Can I come with you to Germany? I would much rather do that trip. ;) Have a great time (as I know you will). Can't wait to read about it and see photos. Right?

  13. You must be the most stylish camper ever. I would bring so much bug spray that it'd tear another hole in the ozone. One little mosquito can just destroy nights of sleep

  14. stick with pants - no poison ivy for you!

  15. Such a welcoming tent with the bed, what will you guys be sleeping on? A duvet and clean sheets sure beats a nylon sleeping bag. Love the comfy attire, especially the boots and the aviators... Chic camping. Oh I'm glad I introduced you to the word Glamping! Have fun on your trip x

  16. That tent looks so inviting! I would never go camping/hiking without my hiking boots maybe that's something to add but I am not sure if you will be doing any hiking. Love the outfit! Who says you can't look cute on the campground or hiking...

  17. Oh camping. Sigh. Trust you Theresa to make even camping look like something I might want to do! It sounds like you have everything covered (I love Chi's recommendation of a pillow!), but wine? Will there be wine? That might make me content enough to forget that I'm not sleeping in that gorgeous bed/tent.

  18. I don't go camping often but do miss being in the outdoors and enjoy the nature. And good tip on wearing hunter boots... didn't even think of that! Now I have an excuse to buy a pair (if I go camping anytime soon, that is.) Have so much fun with your family!! We'll see pictures, right? :) xo

  19. Love the boots and the jacket! I think you are well prepared, you even thought of wipes, which I probably would have forgotten about :) Have a wonderful time!!!! Xx.

  20. Oh Teri has just made me really want to go camping with that description! The smells! Ugg boots are good too. But you can't beat hunters although I can't wear them when it's not raining, that just seems a bit weird to me (it ALWAYS rains at Glasto btw!). Plaid shirt & a utility jacket is perfect.

Remember a thermos flask and I'm totes with Sam - a duvet, sheet and proper feather pillow will give you the best sleep ever. Oh and don't forget a torch! I always forget that and it always catches me by surprise how bloody dark it is in the country!

(I know this is all a bit after horse has bolted isn't it...?)
