{my monday with: still + life}

Happy Monday, everyone! Did you all have a good weekend? The jury is still out on whether I survived camping. Small details. Anyway, I've got something bigger to share with you. Look who I'm spending My Monday with...Lauren of Still + Life. Lauren and I met, you guessed it, through last year's Blogging Your Way course. As soon as I paid a visit to Lauren's blog, I instantly fell in love with her story telling and photography. Lauren has a wonderful way of drawing you into her life and making you feel a part of her world, which I really love about her. Let's take a closer look at Lauren's favorite things ...

{MAC Brick-o-La} I had no idea I had this lipstick until I pulled out a purse I hadn't used in awhile and it's become my summer fave.

{Prada Infusion De Fleur D'Oranger} First bought this perfume at the duty free on our way home from Hungary, and it's been my favorite ever since. Neel gets me a new bottle every year.

{Calendar} Despite my love for my laptop & phone (see pictured!), I love using a paper calendar. It has both weeks and months, and I use the days of the week to make all my lists.

{50mm lens} I had to have something camera related! This lens is my bread and butter. Photography changed for me when I got it.

{Bracelets} I often wear bracelets unless I'm typing a lot. The charm on the one says NLC for Neel, Lauren, Callum. The other silver one I got for my 40th birthday. The two bangles are Alexis Bittar, whose stuff I love. The gold I bought for myself at MOMA and the red my gals from Selma's gave me as a thank you. I might have bought another if *I'd* met Gary Oldman!

{Pencils} go with the calendar. I love using pencils more than pens, but they have to be really sharp!

{Monica Rich Kosann} locket: Perhaps one of my most treasured possessions. A Christmas gift from Neel this year. There's a picture of him laughing and Callum running the bases inside.

{Phone} I'm hoping this old girl holds out until the iPhone 5 is released so I can get the 4S (and its camera) for cheap!

{Bag} my friend Megan gave me the skull & crossbone bag. It's from Etsy. I usually keep it in my purse for headache meds, but the wrist band is awesome. I can pop in my driver's license, some cash, and a lipstick, loop it over my wrist and be ready to go.

{And the salt} My new batch of Pink Himalayan Sea Salt. All of these things a part of me, like hair ties and sunscreen, they're in and out of my everyday. And the salt is too. It represents food and sustenance and what I do everyday to take care of my family (except last night when I made Neel take us out to dinner!). I picked salt because it's the basis of so much savory (and sweet) eating. I'm even hovering my cursor over a book on the history of salt.

Gosh, don't you just love Lauren's favorite things? Some of them have really wonderful sentiments behind them (aw!)Lauren thank you so much for taking the time to share your favorite things with us. This is only an appetizer of what Lauren has to offer, make sure to visit her blog for a full course of awesome.

Have a great Monday everyone!

27 Send Me Your Thoughts:

  1. I love this! I love all of Lauren's selections, and the special stories behind each piece. The pink sea salt was such a smart way to incorporate her love of cooking into the round-up. So impressed with that! I'd love to see the inside of the locket, but I know that's sort of a personal thing :) I'm with you on the 50mm lens, girl! It totally changes the way you take a photograph. I love mine. And I think paper calendars are the only way I get anything accomplished! If I don't write it down it has a slim chance of getting done, haha.
Giggling over the shout-out I got, too! What a wonderful post, ladies! Can't wait to see more. xo

  5. Cute bracelets Lauren. I too really like this series. And the lens.. of course that would be in here. I'd like to ask the contributors to your series so far, was it difficult editing down their favourite things? How about revisiting them again in a year's time to see what's changed. Just a thought x

  6. hello friends! lauren, it's interesting to see what your favorite things are. i also use a paper calendar, love very sharp pencils, and treasure jewelry my honey gave me. i'm glad you have all of them, but most glad that you have your camera! joy to you both, n

  7. I agree, the sea salt was the perfect detail. Lauren is so clever! So happy you enjoyed Lauren's post...I thought you might. ;)
Ha, with all our technology, I still use a paper calendar too. There's something about physically writing a note and having it where I can see it that makes it stick in my brain. I've also been known to write notes on my hands. (Shh, no Sarah Palin jokes.)

  8. Hm...Well, either Lauren or Erin would be able to help you figure out why your photos are coming out blurry when you use the 50mm. Gosh, that must be so frustrating.

  9. Hee-hee, I think those very sharp pencils remain on Lauren's desk. ;)
Thank YOU for stopping by, Rooth!

  10. Thank you, Holly! So happy you're enjoying the series. It's quite fun for me too!

  11. Great suggestion, Sam! Well, for me, I was able to edit by sticking to a general color palette and then selecting items that looked good together.

  12. Hello, Noreen! I think we can all feel grateful that Lauren found her passion in photography as we all get to benefit from her beautiful lens work.

  13. Noreen, what a dear thing to say! I am glad to have all of these treasures, but my camera is very dear to me...that's for sure!

  14. I love the idea of revisiting in a year! Sam, it was so hard to edit! I'm not even really sure how I did it. I like Theresa's idea of using a single color palette...that never occurred to me! I tired to think of the things that were part of my every everyday. That I couldn't get through a day without. And there you are. :)

  15. Hi Holly! Aren't sharp pencils the best? I feel like I keep my sharpener very handy.

  16. Ah-HA! Theresa is right! Mechanical pencils in my bag! ;)

  17. Hmmm...I have some thoughts, so we should chat via email. I probably need to know more, though. Good luck, dear!

  18. I almost took a photo of the inside of the locket, but didn't. I'm sure it'll end up out there somewhere, and I think the photo I used of Callum has been on the blog at some point. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who loves her paper calender! They're the best, aren't they?

  22. What a lovely surprise, T!

I love Lauren's faves - I found myself nodding and smiling at the 50mm lens, the lipstick (best pick-me-up EVER, if you ask me), the pink salt (could NOT live without the stuff), sharp pencils (can't beat 'em) and the iPhone. I've wanted one for the longest time and I'm holding out for the 5 as its release is imminent.

The locket's so pretty, too. I'd love to know what's inside it! :)

Great job, girls - looking forward to the next one! :D

  23. Ah how lovely! That explains all the instagramming. I love the charm bracelet with the initials on it and of course Lauren would be the wonderfully clever lady we know without that lens. I'm very glad she found it!
I totally know what you mean Lauren about sharp pencils and for me this is exactly why I only ever use mechanical nowadays (except for coloured ones), I can bear the wood it makes me feel ill. Eugh like lollipops sticks on teeth. euwwwww.
    Loving this series theresa xxx
