{my monday with...}

happy monday everyone! hope you all had a wonderful weekend. say, do you dread mondays?

for some time now, i've been chewing on ideas for a new monthly column, and i think i've finally worked out the details for something fun. every month, on a monday, i hope to get one of you to share your favorite things...items from around your home that bring a smile to your face. really, the items can be anything you want so long as they fit within a frame of one photo, shot from above. i can't think of a better way to start a new week then to see what makes other people happy.

i'll kick start this column by sharing some of my favorite things.
  • i've been on a bit of a throw pillow craze, namely in the black and white family. so when i saw these zig-zag pillow covers in black and white at west elm, i couldn't resist them.
  • my hair is forever tied back in a bun or braid making ouchless hair ties a necessity. (you can always find an extra one around my wrist.)
  • tomboy and staedtler pens for drawing and writing. i've tried tons of pens and these two brands have stood the test of time.
  • mens timex watch from j.crew. my favorite feature of this watch is the changeable band. whenever the mood strikes, i buy a different band and instantly have a watch that looks new. apparently i have a thing for watches with black faces as i currently have three. it's funny when you start looking at your favorite things, you'll notice patterns start to form.
  • one eleven studio clutch. these clutches made by tori are making me so happy right now. ever since we finished potty training my daughter, i no longer have to carry a diaper bag. hurray! i went from a big ol' diaper bag to these small clutches (polar opposites), and they're making my heart sing. i highly recommend.
  • you undoubtedly know about my love for vanity fair. enough said, right?
  • one of my all time favorite things is having fresh flowers in the house. so having pretty vases, like this white ceramic one from west elm, is a must.
  • ah, volupsa, my favorite candle. mind you, i've never taken the plunge and purchased a diptyque, which is suppose to be amazing. until that day comes, volupsa completely satiates my candle need with a great price point and beautiful packaging.
  • this print that i received from a lovely friend didn't fit in the shot, but it's filling my heart with happiness and gratitude.

so there you have it...just some things that are making this monday a little less dreadful. here's to a new week!

oh, one last detail i could use your help with is the name for this new column. i was thinking about "my monday with..." or "monday merriment with..." anyone know the term for words placed together that all start with the same first letter? for example, "making my monday" or "tasty tuesdays." this is the type of title i'm hoping to uncover. the suggestion box is officially open.

31 Send Me Your Thoughts:

  1. Alliterations! Ha, the English geek in me pulled that one up fast. I'd love to see some alliterative title (as you know, I'm a sucker for them myself: Tuesday Tunes, Friday Five...) and it goes without saying that I LOVE this series so far. I love the color scheme of this round-up, and I love seeing some of your favorite things! I feel like I know you a little better now, if that makes sense. I'm with you on the Voluspa candle thing. I have two tins that look just like that but are both the Goji berry and Tarocco orange scent. Those candles are fabulous. Not that Diptyque aren't, but they're 3 times the price! "My Monday Merriment" or simply "Merriment Mondays." You always have the best ideas! Wear in the World is still something I'm kicking myself for not thinking up, too. Sooo, maybe I could volunteer to share my favorite things one of these Mondays? I'm already thinking of things to include :)

    Hope your weekend was grand!

  2. An alliteration.
I pretty much love everything you’ve chosen, not least because they all go together.
What a great series, I’m in if you’ll have me!
How lovely of Lauren to send you that xx
Monday Momentos? Or just My Monday by X like you have it now?

  3. I use those same hair ties! And I love the clutch with "T" on it. So cute. What a fun round-up. Look forward to seeing more. Hope you had a great weekend and week ahead! What about "Favorite Things?"

  4. What a lovely surprise! Thanks T ; ) I love those pillow covers and will definitely have to try that candle out. I always hear the best things about diptyque but like you, I haven't taken that plunge either. Maybe soon though : )

  5. Hello T,  I've always enjoyed Mondays, although during the school year I work every Sunday preparing for the week.

Great new idea!  It's interesting to find out what brings people joy.  I'm with you about flowers, hair bands, and that watch, too.  Joy, N.

  7. Your loves tick all my boxes.  My Baltic Amber Voluspa candle has almost finished so you've reminded me to go buy another.  Definitely a great value candle.  How about simply Monday's with X.  I confess that I didn't know the word Alliterations either x

  8. i love alliterations. this is a great idea! howabout Monday Meetup with...? P.S. a good hair tie is essential in my daily life as well. Inevitably, there's a day in the week when you can find me scouring purses, backpacks, drawers in desperation for one. Good to have a few here n' there.

  9. oooh, i would love to play! ... it looks so lovely, did it take a lot of trial & error to get the right flow? i could see me stuffing about for ages trying to get things just so! give me a deadline, it will force me to pull my proverbial finger out! ;) monday memento works for me!

  10. Oh T! I just love the idea for this series! LOVE it! And I actually like the title "my Monday..." myself. Most all of us seem to agree about alliteration! I too love everything you've included here from the candle to the hair ties (do you get in a panic if you leave home without one?!). I've decided to treat myself to a candle that I had in San Diego, although once I've spent a ton of cash on it, I'll probably find I've outgrown it!

And I can't begin to tell you how humbled and touched I am to have been included. And that was just the tideover print! I still owe you from the real printing company! xo

  11. How wonderful. I love seeing your faves. You have such gorgeous taste. Tori's bags are lovely, and how sweet of Lauren to gift you one of her divine photo's. I love alliteration.... {You could also do T's Tuesday Tunes :) }

  12. I don't like Mondays so they could use some merriment, so I like this series to make it happier. Like the name My Monday, Merry Monday or Monday's Merriment. I have to agree about hair ties being essential, I always carry some in my bag, around my wrist etc. Love the watch! All my watches stopped ticking and I need to replace the batteries, I think the last one died on me two years ago. Funny I used to be one of those people who couldn't leave the house without a watch ;) Happy Tuesday!

  13. Lauren is such a sweetheart, isn't she? What a lovely photo/gesture!
LOVE your favourites, especially the meaty, manly Timex - be still my beating heart!! :D

    Hmmmm ...........
Can't think of any alliterations but I like yours. :)
My non-alliterative (sorry!) suggestions would be Monday Favourites or Favourite Monday.  :/

  14. Ah, thank you! I just knew one of you would know the answer. I'm glad you're already thinking about your favorite things...Would love to have you.

  15. I can't decide if all these things go together (esp. color wise) because of a happy accident or because I'm a creature of habit. Bit of both, I suppose. Monday Momentos is a good one, Annie. I'm adding you to the list. Fun!

  16. Happy Monday, Teri! [wink, wink]

  17. Aren't those hair ties and clutches the best? Thanks, H!

  18. You bet, Tori. For the longest time I've been trying to think of a creative way to highlight your clutches. Happy I finally found a way.

  19. Happy Monday, Noreen. Hope you enjoyed your time off. I've always been a huge lover of flowers.

  20. Ok, I'm going to definitely keep you in mind. I love how this is all taking shape.

  21. I might be in the need for another Voluspa myself. They also make these great little traveling candles. Something like "My Mondays with..." is starting to grow on me.

  22. Yes, I keep these hair ties everywhere - around my wrist, in my purse, in drawers...My daughter is now using them, as well.

  23. Not too much fussing went into the final shot. Initially, I had the two clutches swapped and I tried one shot with the watch resting on the pillow cover. Ok, signing you up. :)

  24. Thanks, Lauren! So happy you like the new column (you know I'm coming for you). You know, I don't think I've ever left home without a tie. That was a tide over print? Well, I love it.

  25. Thank you, Leah. Are we lucky that we're surrounded by so much talent? "T's Tuesday Tunes" is so catchy.  Hmmm....? ;)

  26. I bet you use your phone as a watch now. If I can make your Monday a little more merry than this new column is going to work out quite nicely. Thanks, Nina.

  27. Four days in Moscow? Oh, Chi, I feel your pain. The days are always so much longer when the husband goes away. I bet welcoming him home felt really good.

  28. Ummm...I think it's a GREAT idea!!! Theres nothing I love more than have the opportunity to take a peek in to people's everyday lives. As far as names go, I quite like My Monday with....

Can't wait to see were the new column goes :)

  29. Hey T, sorry late to the party...

i, for one, am really bored with these Alliterations. I know Holly Becker introduced us to them but, for me, it's overdone.

I love 'the burning house' blog and I think what makes it so brilliant is that concept of choosing a few things that are important. This series is more lighthearted and fun..... what about: 'ideal handbag fillers' 'home treasures in a suitcase' 'my compact life'..

Anyway, sign me up.....sounds like great fun!!!!

  30. Frist of all, your image is fabulous! The layout, the lighting, the background, the text - the whole thing is just so professional! On fist glance I though it was something you took from a magazine. You're really good at this, although I don't know why I'm surprised given your creative talent is apparent in every post. But this one just really strikes me. Love it.

Love the idea for your new monthly column, too. Sounds fun. Although I'm not sure I could produce such a great image, lol! But I would definitely give it a try :)

    Have a great day Xx.
