{celebrating independence...}

i know most of us in the states are in fourth of july mode, but i did want to pop in and wish you a happy independence day. on this day, many of us will find ourselves hanging with friends and family, eating delicious food, hitting the beach or pool, and, when the sun finally sets, watching the sky light up with fireworks. whatever your plans, have fun and be safe.

funny story: when we first moved into our house, every night at 9:40 p.m. i would hear this rolling, thumping sound coming from the attic. (the trap door of the attic lives in our master bedroom closet.) i thought: oh my goodness, this house is haunted! for three nights in a row, i about jumped out of my skin when i heard the rolling and thumping sound begin on the dot at 9:40 p.m., and every time i would finally get my husband upstairs to listen to the noise, it would stop. of course. until the fourth night, we both heard the noise together. the color quickly drained from my husband's face. "see, i told you, the house is haunted! we have to move." i said. just then, my husband opened the bedroom window and stuck his head out. when he pulled his head back inside he said, "that's the disneyland fireworks show!" (boy, was i relieved!)

so every night at 9:40 p.m., if i'm reading quietly in bed, i can hear the fireworks at disneyland...boom. boom. boom-boom. do you believe in ghosts?

happy fourth of july everyone!

  8. Oh boy...that is SOOOO something I would do!!! Every tim eI move to a new place I am convinced it is haunted. I'm surprised you lasted as long as you did. I'm such a scaredy cat I would jet so fast out of that house - leaving behind a Kate-shaped hole in the wall! Happy 4th to you and your beautiful family!!

  11. Yes, Long Beach has a fireworks show right next to the Queen Mary. It's pretty spectacular.
    The sun never did break through and it was actually quite chilly all day. July 4th felt more like April 4th. ;)

  19. Goodness me poor Tina having to listen to Coldplay, the use that in Abu Grave apparently.

    I love this story T! And I'm quite envious you're so close to Disneyland.

    When I bought my first flat, the first time I ever lived alone, on the second night there was an earthquake. A rare occurrence over here. I woke up in the middle of the night and it felt like someone was shaking the end of the bed. I was terrified as I was a bit scared sleeping alone anyway. In the morning I thought I'd dreamt it and then when I got to work I read about the earthquake and realised what had happened. It was really scary!

    (ps I'm with Tina on the disqus!)
