{the colors of spring...}

happy first day of spring everyone! we made it...we made it through the winter blues. i'm going to go ahead and admit that january is not my favorite month of the year. it's just a difficult month to get through after the celebratory whirlwind that is november and december. though, every month after january progressively gets better, and now spring has sprung.

with the winter blues behind us, we can now officially welcome the colors of spring, which this season appear to be mint green, fuchsia, and poppy orange. to anchor all the brightness, i would add just a pinch of black (but that's just me). do you have your eye on any fun, bright colors for spring?

  1. I always try to find the positive in all the seasons but I must admit - winter is not my favourite. It felt so wonderful awakening to daylight at 6.30 a.m this morning.

After what seems like ages, spring seems to finally be on its way here in the UK - woo-hoo!!! :).

I'm a total colourholic and I love punchy, vibrant hues (like the fuchsia of those yummy trousers) but this spring it's all about citrus for me! :D

  2. I just took a foggy walk, and it was so nice to see the bright pops of color on the red buds and dog woods and forsythia. I'm ready. Callum is out throwing the ball with his dad in the mornings before school and the light is so nice in the evenings. Bring it on.

  3. Chi's right, it was beautiful here this morning. So light! But the clocks go forward on Saturday so it'll be dark again next week. How exciting to get home in the light though I totally love that.

My new dress I got for my bro's wedding is dark pink and I got a mint green cardigan to go over it. I'd never normally be brave with colours like that but it's becuase of all the lovely inspiration I seen on blogs like this!

    xx

  5. I'm hooked on this mint trend, but I don't have pieces in that color yet! Poppy? Sign me up! And I'm like you, I like anchoring everything with black or gray. It's my comfort zone plus it makes the bright colors really pop. Happy spring, darling! We made it! Now in just a few months I'll be complaining about how damn hot it is in Philly. Remind me of how much winter sucked, kay? xo

  6. Happy Spring to you too T! So excited that it is here with weather to match! I'm loving the poppy and mint trend (as you know) but we'll see if it sticks :) It's funny I just bought my FIRST pair of black boots this past season! I've never been into wearing black, brown has always been my choice of dark neutral. I'm just starting to open up to blacks possibilites! Especially for date nights :)

  7. Spring is my favourite season. Love March especially, it's my birthday on Saturday and that coincides with the clocks going forward an hour. It's only then that I know Spring has truly arrived.

I bought a mint top online the other day, that's my first foray into this seasons trend. I agree with you on adding a bit of black too, it's a lovely strong contrast.

  9. Happy Spring! I'm now officially happy until we have to give up daylight savings in October. I'm wanting to add some bright Kelly Green and fuschia to my wardrobe. Been eyeing so many things at J.Crew, but waiting for an email about a sale..may have to bite the bullet and just pick one or two things. Also want to try and plant a small herb garden this year:)

  10. Happy spring, possum! (just read that Barry Humphries is retiring 'Dame Edna'.

So, thank God for a bit of black here T. All this mint and fuchsia is giving me an allergy:)

Jennifer, herb garden is great. I only have very few (4 herbs) but would like more. Go girl! And yes, I like Sage colour...

  12. @CHI - I agree, trying to stay positive whatever the season is a good goal. Though, I do have to remind myself of this goal more often in the winter months. AND, I don't even live in a part of the world that has real winter climate! I'm feeling your citrus colors. Very happy.

@LAUREN - Since DST, I've been waking up earlier just on my own. I should take advantage of being awake, but instead I just stay in bed until the morning light really breaks. The way you all are taking advantage of the morning light is inspiring. What a wonderful way to start the day!

@ANNIE - When I was working, I remember how nice it was to get out of work when there was still day light. It made you feel like you could still do some living outside the job.
Dark pink dress with a mint green cardigan sounds so fun. Hope we get to see pics. ;)

@ERIN - Hope you splurge on one thing mint because I think the color would look good on you, with the poppy lipstick.
You do get pretty brutal, sticky summers in Philly, don't you? That's all the more reason to really enjoy these spring days.
Though, from what I heard, the East didn't get much of a winter. Maybe the summer won't be so bad (fingers crossed).

@LIZ - Have you done a search on Pinterest for poppy and mint? There's so much pretty inspiration. I'm with you, I'm loving this color combo right now.
Ha, I went through a brown phase too. Then, it was right back to black.

@SAM - Well, I'm horrible at remembering things (momnesia) so let me just say "happy birthday!" to you now. Hope you're doing something fun and wearing your new mint top. ;)

@NOREEN - Some spring cleaning is definitely on the to-do list. Was actually able to get some done last Friday while it was raining. The kids like to follow me around with the dust mop now, so I have some help. ;)

@JENNIFER - Ha-ha, I'm keeping my eye out for one of those sales too. I really need to go spring shopping in a bad way.
An herb garden sounds like a fantastic idea! I would love to grow some rosemary and mint.

@TINA - You're so funny! I had to Google that first sentence. :) He's retiring so he can have more time to write and travel. That sounds like a fantastic retirement, and plan.
You girls both "Go!" with your herb gardens.

@MARIT - Happy spring to you too! (I'm also digging red, as well.)
