i belong to a book club that has been together since 2004 (hope i got the year right, you know my bad memory)! we've seen a handful of members come and go, but five original members still exist. (i've actually taken two hiatuses myself.) the group started before any of us had children and time was on our side. now we all have children and have seen our lives change in many different ways. literature brought us together. sharing and connecting keep us coming back.
lately, i keep complaining about how i don't have time to read, which is just mind boggling to me because i love to read. i read this article* and i said to myself, "reading is not important to me." needless to say, the statement didn't sit well with me. it's amazing how just a little twist of your language will motivate you to make time for the things that are important to you, as the article suggests.
so, i finally put my foot down. i simply made reading a priority. for one week now, i have been giving myself one hour (or so ;) of reading time before bed, and it's a good thing i did because this month's book club selection is 1Q84 by haruki murakmai. the book is 925 pages long! at my rate, i figure my book review will be ready in two months. what are you forcing yourself to make time for in your life these days? i would also love to know what you're reading right now.
ps~tonight is actually our monthly book club meeting. we are forgoing our standard meet-at-a-restaurant-and-chatter to see hunger games. our group read the first book in the series last year. i'm just looking forward to seeing a movie.
*this post has made the blog rounds, but i thought it was important to share as it illustrates my point so well.
