{guilty pleasure...}

during the holidays, i noticed many people on twitter mentioning that they were catching up with their favorite shows like downtown abbey (does anyone watch this?), mad men, and gray's anatomy (i'm two seasons behind). while i was making various christmas creations, i caught up with my own guilty pleasure that is gossip girl. i was about a season and a half behind (i'm almost caught up). every time i indulge in gossip girl, i'm left wondering who does the set design because it's all really good. (i'm also left wondering if chuck and blair will ever be together. but, i digress...) i did a little google search (ah, google, what would we do without you?) and discovered it's christina tonkin interiors. go take a peek at her portfolio, if you can. if you need more convincing, she also did the set design for sex in the city. do you ever watch your favorite movie or television show and get lost in the interior/set design?

in addition to my stripe addiction, i have a minor obsession with chairs. mid-century is my favorite, but i will happily accept a chair from any period. gossip girl fulfills my chair love, for certain. (does anyone know who makes that black armchair in the last photo? google turned up nothing.) along with amazing furniture, the art selection is also pretty spectacular with a mixture of pop, photorealism, abstract, 3d installations, and photography. all around a good guilty pleasure. what's yours?

14 Send Me Your Thoughts:

  1. I LOVE gossip girl. I think I'll catch up on it, as well. The last episode I saw was so long ago I don't even remember what happened. I think Nate met someone named Juliet at a restaurant? I don't know, but you've inspired me to re-indulge. And I'm with you on the interiors. I'm guilty of googling the designer a while back, too!

I actually met Dan & Jenny (Penn Badgley and Taylor Momsen) at an event in NYC. My ex was in a band that was invited to the opening of the Niketown store in NYC, and among the other celebrity guests were those two. Dan was super douche-y and had an aura of being better than everyone, but was kind enough to take a picture with me, and Taylor was an absolute sweetheart. She was 14 at the time, and the show had just finished the 1st season, so this was before she became goth slutty Jenny and started a band and quit the show. She was so sweet and had one of those backpacks that was a stuffed animal. And she was there with her parents. It was surreal, to say the least.

  3. Chairs definitely do it for me too! A Hans Wegner Ox chair is on my "if I ever win the lottery" list! He was an architect and designed the chair to support every body part. Its the most comfortable chair I've ever enjoyed sitting in! There's a blog called Hooked on Houses that has interior and exterior pics of just about everyone's house on and off tv that you might want to see! Be forewarned! It's very easy to get lost in there and not come out for several hours!

  4. GG is my TOTAL guilty pleasure. I don't watch much T.V. and when I do its usually not network T.V., but my DVR is set and records every delicious episode for me! I love the wardrobe for Blake L. and Leighton M. - total fantasy for me. Thank you for the info on the set design - it is so gorg.

  5. @ERIN - Yup, Juliet has come and gone. Oh, oops, don't want to spoil it for you. I love your GG story. You've always got the best stories. Too bad about Penn, though you did get the pic.

@ADA - I fully believe that stripes have passed the trend phase and entered classic...Definitely here to stay. People are even finding new ways to wear their stripes, like mixing it with other patterns (really cute).

@ANN - Uh oh, Ann. You know I'm going to have to go lose myself in that site recommendation. You'll know where to find me if I turn up missing. Yea, these chairs are definitely a "when you win the lottery" type of purchase.

@JENNIFER - Yes, Serena and Blair definitely have an enviable wardrobe. Oh, but what about Lily's? She's been wearing these eyeglasses with cream/clear frames lately - Pretty chic.

  7. Theresa, I just started watching Gossip Girl over the holiday break and I can see why you are hooked, besides all the drama..the interiors are a-mazing! But I have to say my true giuitly pleasure during the break was the vampire diaries! Have you seen? It's totally the twilight on the WB, with lots of killings and preying on small town residents. Oh, the guiltiness of it all! I love it!

  8. @NOREEN - I really don't watch much t.v. either, really ;). I just went on some kind of bender during the holidays and now I'm hooked again on GG. You're not missing anything...Just a bunch of mind candy ;)

@LIZ - I have never seen the Vampire Diaries. OH, but it looks like a good guilty pleasure. If you like the vampire genre, how about True Blood? Heard that show is great.

  10. I have to admit I've been hooked on Gossip Girl since it first aired!! I used to Really love it when it first started but as the years have gone by it's slowly reminding me of an All My Children/General Hospital type of show(you know, the kind where people can die and then a few years later miraculously come back to life?). No matter how hard I try to pry myself away from the show I just can't! I have to know what Blair and Serena are wearing and what handbag they are carrying. I'd have to say that this show is where I get a lot of inspiration for dreaming up handbags : )

  12. @MORLEE - I didn't even mention the clothes in the post! How could I forget?! Hm, a new post idea??

@TORI - I know, I know...They are really starting to recycle story lines, aren't they? I know the formula now: Keep main characters but introduce a set of new ones in the beginning of the season, kill or run them off at the end of season, wash, rinse, repeat. BUT I still keep coming back.

@CECY - Hi Cecy! I think I just started November episodes. No problem, it was fun!

  13. I watch Downton! First series great, second series rubbish. We even downloaded the Christmas Special for £5 on iTunes, even though it was free tv. Doh. I loooooove all the clothes though and the gardens are beautiful. Planning a day trip to Highclere Castle, where it's filmed, at some point this year.

    I've never watch GG, sorry!

My obsession is with side tables. i could buy a hundred. And table lamps.

    I love that butterfly installation.
