{gifted...}

here is my little collection of gifts that i received for christmas. i thought it would be fun to lay the items out and play with the composition (kind of like this). plus, i am trying to meet one of my new year's resolutions - take and share more of my own photos*. anyway, i am really in love with all the gifts i received (thank you, family!):
  • faux fur scarf: at first, i thought the scarf was too fancy for me. but it's super soft and it keeps my neck warm, so my mind was quickly changed.
  • striped tee shirt - guess what everyone? i received a striped tee shirt! (my sister knows all my addictions.) this one has a little zipper detail in the back.
  • sparkly belt - adds just the right amount of bling to an all black outfit.
  • fluffy slippers - i love these slippers! i love them so much i've been carrying them around with me as we make the holiday house visits. i take off my (real) shoes, take these babies out of my bag, and slip them on. foot heaven.
  • ballet flats - these cuties have sweet little gold studs around the toe and heel.
  • kate spade gold bracelet - on the inside of the bracelet are the words, "heart of gold". ahhh, shucks.
  • j.crew gift cards - so i can buy more striped goodness. nuff said.
  • lumix camera with pancake lens - thanks, honey! (how did you know?!)
  • five year journal - ok, this journal is pretty neat, people. on the top of each page of the journal there is the month and day. below the month and day are five spaces where you fill in the year and write a sentence or two about your day. my first entry was on 1/1/12. next year, on 1/1/13, i will return to this same page and again write one or two sentences about my day underneath the 1/1/12 entry. so on and so forth until 2017. isn't that neat? for five years, i can just look at the above entries to know exactly what i was doing one year ago on the same day.
  • LOVE - last, but never least, i received love. lots and lots of love...[wait for it]...priceless.

ok, so, spill. what did you all receive for christmas? what gift (purchased or priceless) did you love the most?

14 Send Me Your Thoughts:

  1. What gorgeous gifts! I love them! I think I might want one of those journals...is it too late to start? ;) How are you liking the camera?

  2. Congrats on the new camera! Can't wait to see what you do with it! And yay striped shirts! Stripes are my downfall. I'm actually wearing a J Crew striped shirt today! I love the idea of a 5 year journal but that is some serious commitment. I don't think I have it in me, though it would be amazing to look back and see how those 5 years went, and I bet those few sentences will speak volumes once it's all said and done.

I got a new 50mm lens for Christmas and my mom bought me a cake pop maker because she understands my addiction to cake. I received lots of things, but really enjoyed spending time with my cousin who flew in from Phoenix and my mom-mom, who was in stitches over the People of Walmart book I bought for my aunt. You should have heard her commentary!

  3. Great pics! I'm going to share my gifts of my blog too, so I can't tell you what I got yet. :-P But I can tell you I did get a bunch of stuff for my new camera from hubby and a bunch of stuff from my mom. She goes way overboard!

Happy new year! (oh, I haven't seen those trees you're talking about, sounds cool though!)

  4. Great gifts! I'm with the others, I like that journal! I think I must have one for myself and at least 4 other people! Who makes it? Where do I get one? Googling now. Oh, and that Kate Spade bracelet, what a treasure!

  5. @LAUREN - It's never too late ;) I'm liking the camera, but there's a learning curve and I need to make time to learn (and read the manual, boo!).

@ERIN - Ha, I already forgot to write my entry last night for 1/2/12. I cheated and wrote it this morning. Oh how I wish I could have heard that commentary. Your mom's got a sharp wit, so I know I would have been rolling (that's where you get it from, right?).

@MICHELLE - (Hee-hee) Can't wait...I'll be popping over to see all your goodies! Moms are great like that...How fun.

@ANN - The back of the journal says Shopsin's General Store & The Ice Plant (??). www.shopsinsgeneralstore.com. If I know my girlfriend, I bet she purchased the journal from Anthropologie.

@JENNIFER - Thanks! I used the Lumix with a retro filter. I'm still learning.

  6. hello theresa, i love your gifts and the composition you made of them! my 14-year-old and i both love the flats, and my slippers are much like those. ditto my feelings about them. the journal is awesome! if you can do it, it will keep your history for you (although your blog will be here, too, but not quite as private).

for christmas we took a trip, as you know, and my honey got our gas fireplace to work. in 7 years, we'd never used it. so nice!

enjoy your new camera. can't wait to see your photos! n

  8. Nice gifts ... the journal sounds wonderful!!!! As for me, my 'priceless' gift was 1 of the gifts from my hubby ... I opened a box to see a large teddy bear (which immediately I though ummm, I am a little too old to get a stuff toy).. it took me a few secounds to resognize the bear .. it was the one I had from when I was a child (last time I saw it it was missing 1/2 a nose and paw and skinny (had less stuffing); my hub took it to get fixed .. It was sooo precious that he took the time to do so ESPECIALLY since it was a stuff toy that my mom had made from me .. again a looooong time ago. I couldn't help but cry when I saw it! .... priceless :)

  9. @NOREEN - I loved following with you on your road trip. You took some stunning photos and did a great job documenting your time. A working fireplace in your neck of the woods must be a true gift.

@LEAH - I hope you get your new camera soon. I found an online photography class that might work for you. Check out Nicole's Classes when you get a chance.

@ADA - Oh, Ada, that is a wonderful (priceless) gift. I still have my childhood teddy bear, as well. He has a ripped seam where his heart would be and the stuffing is starting to poke through, but otherwise he's in good shape.

  10. You got some wonderful gifts! My parents gave me the most exiting gift ever and it seems they got the idea from reading my blog ;) Will write about it as soon as it is installed...

I have similar slippers. Nothing better than to step into them barefoot.

    Happy New Year!

  11. Ah Theresa I love that photo, that's a really cool way to show your presents. You should have called your post 'swag' :) What nice presents you got, I pretty much want everything on there. I so badly can't wait for J Crew to open over here, I wish they'd hurry up!

What camera model is that? Is it a p&s? I'm looking for one and I keep reading how good the Lumix is. How are you getting on with it?

There was a story on the BBC last week about a guy who wrote one of those five year diaries in the first world war when he was in the trenches. The weird thing is that none of the entries were more than 140 characters so are exactly the same as tweeting!
