{holiday decorating...}

so, i finally started decorating up in here. i don't know what it is, i can't seem to get into the spirit. i think it's because i have too many ideas in my head and no focus. it's trial and error at this point. here are a few shots of my work in progress. the tree is up and mostly decorated. the fireplace mantle is dressed. i had the hot glue gun and my whole collection of ribbon out. (by the way, we have this amazing craft store in the neighborhood called fabric barn where you can buy 25 yards of ribbon, like grossgrain, for $4! i'm not kidding. it's a ribbon lovers paradise.) as you can see, i don't go hog wild with color. i keep the palette down to 2-3 colors. this year, it seems to be white, silver, red, and a dash of something woodsy. or as my husband likes to call it, "boring." (he's so cute.) anyway, it's all coming together little by little. if it's not all done by the party on sunday, i'll just keep the house dimly lit and the bar well-stocked. it's like a wedding - what's done is done, now let's have some fun.

ps~i'm really enjoying seeing little glimpses of your holiday homes. it's like we all get to spend the holidays together.

10 Send Me Your Thoughts:

  1. I looove love love the Eames DCW chairs just hanging out in the background. Your Christmas decorations look great, not too overdone or anything. And I'm SO JEALOUS of all the natural light just streaming into your home.

  2. That's a good place to be. Getting overwhelmed is much less enjoyable. It looks perfect! Teri

  3. That comment from your husband cracked me up! I love everything Erin loves pretty much, and I agree with Teri too. A friend's ex in the midst of his PhD studies once said, "Sometimes 'done' is better than 'good'." Best thing we got from the guy. I think it looks lovely. Take a breath. It's going to be great.

  6. Thanks everyone!

    @Erin - The Eames chairs were a Xmas gift from the husband five years ago. Like you, if given a choice between furniture or something to wear, I think I would pick furniture.

    @BeachCity - Yes, I think I'm in a good place now.

    @Lauren - Those PhD majors, they know how to break it down. Love the quote.

    @Tori - I will, I will. Those ornaments in the window are hanging from a Birch branch - my favorite part. I'm so into branches right now.
