one week ago today, we were lying on a beach in hawaii with sand between our toes and the sun on our face. we've been going to hawaii in the fall for the past three years (same island, same resort); it's not as crowded during this season. though, when the kids start school, our fall trip will most likely have to be pushed up into summer. we'll take it for now. we had five families in total on this trip this year, and i had the amazing opportunity to celebrate my big four-oh in hawaii! on my birthday, while we were sitting on the beach watching the kids get buried in the sand, a friend turned to me and said, "today's your birthday, if money were no object and you could do anything you wanted, what would it be?" i thought aloud, "hm, have lunch with johnny depp on his private island, go on a shopping spree in paris, have oprah be my personal life coach…" then, i stopped myself, looked around, out over the bluest of oceans and the kids trying to wriggle free of their sand trap, and said, "this is it. right here. it doesn't get any better than this." most often, we have all we need right in front of us. i'm truly blessed.
a big, huge thank you to my family (and extended family) for making this trip really special. thank you friends near and far who sent messages via text and fb. and, last but certainly not least, thank you readers (silent and expressed) for stopping by and sending wishes. i felt the love, for sure.
